Back to School (Not Just) Barefoot

Back to School (Not Just) Barefoot

October 9, 2025

September feels like a new beginning. Children return to their classrooms, parents get back into work mode, and the carefree summer days are replaced by a regular routine. Suddenly, there’s less time for long outings and evenings spent outside until dark. That’s why it’s so important to find ways to keep children moving in ways that are fun and also support their healthy development.

All summer long, kids ran barefoot through the garden, at the cottage, by the water. Their feet were naturally stimulated by a variety of surfaces. But in September, everything usually changes — sturdy shoes, school floors, asphalt, and gym halls take over. Their feet slowly but surely start missing out on the diversity they need so much.

Did you know that each foot has over 200,000 nerve endings? That means the feet constantly send signals to the brain about how we’re standing, where we’re moving, and whether we’re balanced. When feet are confined all day in stiff shoes, this communication is reduced (and yes — that applies to adults, too!). But barefoot walking — whether outside or at home with the help of MUFFIK orthopedic mats — immediately awakens the brain and activates muscles we didn’t even know we had.

You don’t need extra time for your child to enjoy movement with MUFFIK. Just a few minutes is enough — for example, while waiting for lunch, between homework sessions, or even during toothbrushing.

You’ll soon see where you can keep MUFFIK orthopedic mats ready so they become part of your daily routine — when your child comes home from school, they take off their shoes and walk across the playful path to their room; while studying, they can stand barefoot on a chosen tile, which supports focus and proper posture; or during playtime or morning dressing, when they lay out their favorite pieces, they naturally stimulate their feet and strengthen stability.

Playful September Tips:

Barefoot Home Stop – Place MUFFIK orthopedic mats right by the door. Everyone who comes in (kids and adults alike) has to walk across them before going further (after taking off shoes, of course). It’s a small ritual that gets the body moving after a day at a desk or in the office — and it might even delight guests who haven’t yet discovered the world of MUFFIK.

Learning in Motion – Let kids jump across the tiles following the syllables of a word, multiplication tables, or a color pattern they’re memorizing. This combines learning with movement, helping the brain remember the material more effectively. Plus, this way of learning is guaranteed to be fun! (Tested and approved)

Barefoot Quiz – Create a path using different tiles (you can be a little sneaky and choose some less comfortable ones). When your child answers a question correctly (a part of speech, a multiplication fact, an English word), they can move one tile forward. The goal is to reach the “finish tile” — it could be a favorite piece or a spot with a small reward.

MUFFIK in September is not just about healthy feet — it’s also about balance between school responsibilities and playful childhood. Kids learn, grow, sit, and concentrate. MUFFIK reminds them that even at home, in a small space, their steps can remain varied, playful, and free.
